I welcome you all to the graduating ceremony of Sri Sathya Sai kindergarten. The Sathya Sai kindergarten was started in the year 2000 and today we are here to celebrate the 10th graduation ceremony of sai school.
Sathya Sai schools all over the world follow the SSEHV program which was initiated by Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, who was a renowned educationalist, humanitarian and a great spiritual master.
Sai Baba often emphasized that the purpose of education is to inculcate virtues and character in every individual.
He said that the purpose of education is not just for the acquisition of knowledge or material possessions; education is not for mere living but also for developing children with high moral character who become responsible citizens of the world.
He said: The end of education is character
He often reminded the teachers that the basic 5 human values of truth, right action, love, non-violence and peace must be inculcated from a young age. Only then can the worldly knowledge gained through education be of positive, constructive use to the individual and society.
To give a quick example: Teaching that water is composed of 2 units hydrogen and one unit of oxygen H2O is normal academic knowledge. Teaching the value of water or the proper way to use and conserve it, is Sathya Sai Education in Human Values. Both kinds of teaching must be used together to constitute more balanced education.
The 5 values mentioned above are universal and form the core values of all faiths and cultures and hence the SSEHV program is a very universal program that can be easily adopted by all countries and races.
Today the SSEHV program (including community SSEHV) is active in 70 countries and we have 24 Institutes of Sathya Sai Education in 24 countries. There are over 42 Sathya Sai Schools in 26 countries.
Sai Baba often mentioned that parents as well as teachers must be role models and must lead children by example Hence the Sathya Sai parenting program was initiated all over the world for parents
All these programs offer a unique opportunity for teachers, students and parents to grow and develop together.
I am very grateful to the Sai school teachers for inviting me here today and I now request Sis Mary and Sis Lin to start the program
